Unsafe by Design: The Brutal and Deadly Impact of Policing and ICE on Black and Brown Women in America - Thursday March 12th, 2026 | 6:30 pm
in NYC and over Zoom
Black and Brown women in the United States face a crisis of state violence shaped by racism, sexism, and the enduring legacies of slavery, colonialism, and patriarchal control. From police killings and custodial neglect to immigration raids and technological surveillance, their lives are repeatedly placed at risk by systems built on racial hierarchy rather than genuine public safety.
Grounded in global human rights frameworks—including the UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, the Beijing Platform for Action, the Durban Declaration, and Sustainable Development Goal 16—this panel examines how gendered state violence persists across policing, detention, migration enforcement, and digital surveillance.
The conversation also centers the heavy, often overlooked labor of mothers, families, and community advocates who serve as outcry witnesses and movement leaders in the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability.
This event is part of NGO CSW70 Forum, aligning with the CSW70 Priority Theme: “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls.” Our UN Statement.
We invite all attendees to join us for this vital conversation.
